Tuesday, March 16th, 6:30 to 8:30 pm

Dinner is free and starts at 6:30 pm. The talk starts at 7 pm. Please RSVP to 227-1293.

Jews are 3% of the populace, but just 1% of all major leaguers. Playing professional sports requires huge, ongoing commitment. What is the lesson for today’s Little Leaguers (and their soccer moms and football dads)? How do you cope with the dual requirements for Torah study and infield practice?

We know about Koufax and Youkilis, but what about the other 158 Jews? Did they attend services, sit shiva, and did they do their Hebrew School homework?

Howard Megdal will discuss our Jewish heritage within the context of major league baseball. From old timers to current stars, he’ll offer stories, trivia, and guidance for parents. So join us, as this program is for kids, parents, and grandparents.

Email questions about teams, players, and related issues to men@tiwestport.org. Visit the Men's Group page for more info and a list of all 160 Jewish players.

Howard Megdal is Editor-in-Chief of The Perpetual Post. He covers baseball for SNY.tv, NY Baseball Digest, MLBTradeRumors.com, and has written for ESPN.com. He co-hosts the New York Baseball Digest radio program and was a guest on several radio stations, including WFAN and WVOX. He and his wife live in Long Island.

He also authored The Baseball Talmud. From the icons of the game, to the players who got their big break but never quite broke through, this Talmud provides a wonderful historical narration of Major League Jewish Baseball in America. It includes all the stats, facts, stories, and (often unheralded) glory. He will sign copies after the event.
